4x3 no reverse
like title says i just tore the tranny out of my 85 vette. it lost reverse and overdrive was working, but choose when it wanted to rather switch was on or not. on the ground if i place the tranny in reverse and turn input shaft it will spin thru even with resistance. clutch is in fine order, but in car i just get a reverse whine and no movement. any ideas? and also is the od section tied to the reverse and the 4 gears stand alone?

that is a more logical choice do a 5 speed swap or 6 speed, i just got this vette a week ago so im sure the swap is possible, but i wouldnt know much about it. looked aroud the forum for info but fell short. i see theres a kit that mounts up a 5 speed to my engine for 1. any that bolt inwith no kit ? what trans is it, what years was it in, my clutch or theres. id need a bit of info if any could point me in the right direction would be great.

Hi I had the same with my 85.No reverse or it was as the clutch was bad. You might be lucky and can save the OD and have it rebuild. I came too late as there was somethink that had sliped and grinded its way though the wall into the gearbox. I should check the oillevel on the OD and it flowed over as the gearboxoil was into the OD.
I bought a newer Od wiithout the TV cable and this has worked fine in14 years now. If I had had this now I would have changed the transmission to the TKO or Tremec or Keisler kit which is more or less bolt on except you have to cut a little peace out of the tunnel and screw on or installl a plate following the kit. Then you have a transmission that manage far more torque than the 4+3 and is far better shifting with the stick
Good luck
