Default Tpis bigmouth purchase!!

I just ordered the TPIS Bigmouth intake manifold for my '85 4+3 garage queen. I will probably need help with the install. would anyone like to help me with some writeups pls? also, what will compliment the bigmouth? i've been taking my time with the car ( ive had her for a year now) so far all ive done was take out my busted cat, had my local muffler guy weld in a 3" test pipe that connect to my DMH 3" cutout. she roars with the cutout open and sounds aggressive with it closed. im very excited with this purchase. (TPIS) anyone also feel this way once they started to do their mods??

While you are there , i strongly suggest to upgrade your runners and plenum
or at least port them to match your new bigmouth base extra flow

Yes, I'll def. need to take oout the plenum and have it ported as well as the runners and look into consideration some nearby conrvette shops. I was also thinking of upgrading my fuel injectors since I'll be taking and disconnecting the fuel rail.. Hmmm I'm having a hard time deciding which injectors would be ideal.

@Calderone Thank you Sammy for the helpful insight, I'll be sure to look into some injectors and then I'll shoot him a PM. There's a high level of anxiety running through me, partly to get back home and starting my project, and also because I have to register for classes on Monday. (gotta take a full load of upper division courses)

@WW7 I was thinking of trying to do the porting myself.. I found a simple "how to" video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMoBx5Y0Ock and yes, I can feel a habit forming and I havent even touched anything yet!! ohh the joy of building a fast car

@JackDidley precisely! headers will probably be the next big purchase. but i am also looking into a way to stiffen my suspension (thinking of sub frame connectors, but that might have to wait) I am going to need to find legal (California) mid-lengths for a decent price...

There are no Calif legal headers available for an 85. Unfortunately, the stock manifolds are woefully inadequate.

Hi guys, just a lil update.
I) Removed MAF, TB, Plenum, Runners, Fuel Rail, OEM Manifold Base
Now where do I start the process of cleaning/flushing?
II) I purchased the rebuilt bosch design 3 injectors
Need any kind of retuning or should I look into fuel pressure? Kinda not my neck of the woods.
III)Anyone hear of "Mad Tuner" currently looking into getting a tune by them.
IV) Is porting stock runners work it?

FYI
The TPIs Bigmouth is in the process of install, I just need a few tips on what I need to be aware of. I've supplied myself with two bottle of black RTV.
What is "gasket matching"

Cheers guys. anything helps.

Great ! take your time and don't stress
if you really want to flush all the coolant from your radiator just open the drain ****
but i've done the intake swap without flushing.

II) Did you buy bigger injectors ? or same size ?
III) Never heard of them
IV) I believe so ,sent them to corvetteplenum.com with your plenum as well

Nothing there to port, need good aftermarket ones.

If you want real gains esp. from a TPI you got to get into carbides and real metal removal, more involved than smoothing. Better than nothing though.

Before you get it back together, make sure your at Top dead center of the compression stroke on cylinder no.1 so you can drop the distrbutor back in....and have it run.

I probably wouldn't worry about port matching the intake to the heads, but make sure you use the correct intake gaskets or you might have a problem...Call TPIs and use the one they recommend. Then align the gaskets to the intake and then the heads, and make sure everything lines up correctly. Make sure you put a reasonable (not too much) amount of sealant around the water ports on the heads, then gently set the intake on the heads (using the bolts to align the gaskets...barely use any torque) and let the sealant set up around the water jackets. Then apply sealant to the top of the gasket at the water jackets, and torque to specs. Also, put sealant on the 8 intake bolts before you put the bolts in, to prevent seepage later on. I try to be really clean about everything, and not make a mess.

Take you time and make sure everything is done correctly. You don't want to have to pull it apart because of a simple mistake.

At least that is how I do it.

Good Luck!!!

Default Gains!

After installing my intake manifold and getting everything back together (very carefully), I cranked her up but noticed my DMH cutout was malfunctioning. I jacked the car up, checked the wiring of the cutout (nothing wrong), then removed the cutout entirely. I manually opened the cutout, reinstalled it, and boy does she purrr! Took her out for a drive, and I'd be damned, but seemed like there was a transformation in my car! haha, anyways, the car was running on all 8cylindors, until i encountered a huge radiator leak.. Looking to buy a stock replacement. Would any of you guys recommend another?

p.s. I am going to post a video of my car as soon as I get back into town.
