My 96 LT1 has a problem with the A/C and Heat only coming out of the defroster, side, and lower leg vents. I read on the forum a while back that replacing the Corvette Heater & Air Conditioning Vacuum Tank Check Valve, 1984-1996 Part # 28618 could solve the problem. It did not for me. Obvioulsy the little door that opens and closes to change where it blows from is not actuating. Do I need to change the entire climate control dash system?
I am looking forward to anyone that can help. Thanks!
I had a crack in the vac line that went from that check valve in the engine compartment to the cabin of the car. It was cracked in the area of where it enters the wiring loom on the firewall above the trans bell housing.
If you can remove it again from the check valve, see if you can create any kind of vacuum (which will be testing the components in the cabin).
Be careful not to break it as it may be brittle...
The first place I would look would be the Programmer. It is located on the drivers side behind the knee bolster.Hard to see and difficult to remove. That was the problem with my 90.
The programmer directs the air flow through a vac. module. On the 96 the nipples are soft rubber and fail.
