When I moved the ac compressor out of the way during my header install, I cracked the evaporator and all the freon leaked out. I was really bummed as I hate working on this car as of late. Do I have to take the whole box off or just half of the case? Any tips or tricks will be greatly appreciated. When this project is over (exotic muscle headers with cats), I'm going to sell this car and all my extra parts and get a nice mid-year.
I have removed just half the case before to clean out my evaporator. the box splits right on the center of the evap. I dont know if you can actually get it out of there like this but it is step 1 of trying, since the rest of removal is a tight SOB on the other half of the box, which I have removed after I took off the exhaust. So if you are putting headers on it, it would be advised to do this when the exhaust is off the car.
Thanks Bill. Well I have good news and bad news. The good news is I was able to remove the evaporator core by removing only the outside (easy) half of the airbox. The bad news is I broke the heater core trying to get the hose off. Ugh! I how difficult that job as I have done it before. It never ends I swear. I have some pictures but I'm not sure how to post them.
Oh man I passed that point probably around 1999! I have had a ton of money through this car over the years but it was never about the money. It's a hobby and I'm ready to move on. I have other nice cars I can jump in and turn the key and go. One is a 2011 Audi S5 Convertible and the other is an Audi R8 which is a real head turner. It makes you feel like a movie star! The list of parts I have gone through is phenomenal.
