Is my motor shot ??? (long)
Well, I replaced the regulator last night, and it turned out that the problem I've been having is a injector stuck open. It was just flooding the cylinder. The injector on #3 was intermittently sticking open, and when I would tap it with a wrench, it would close. I know several other forum members using Accel injectors had thi problem, so for those with these injectors, I would advice that you replace them ASAP. I will try to contact Accel and find out what they can do for me if they can do anything at all.(It's been less than a year old)
Now for my questions :
1) what can i do to test if any of the piston rings got washed ? would a compression test do ?
2) if it did, would the car be driveable ?
3) if the motor is shot, i would like to rebuild it, but this time, i'm going to take my time and get input from you guys, on how i can get this motor to put atleast 400RWHP.
Here are my engine components :
race prepped LT1 block with Milodon steel
splayed center main caps, Lunati 4340 forged crankshaft, Lunati Pro Mod 5.850 rods,
SRP forged dished pistons, JE file-fit rings,
Federal mogul race bearings, and is internally balanced.
-- i had the heads bowl ported, and intake and exhuast match ported, and i was thinking of getting them fully CNC ported; anyone have flow numbers on a ported LT4 heads.
-- please advise on what cam to use ( i'm leaning to the LPE 72419)
Dur @.050" Lift w/ 1.5 Lift w/ 1.6 C/L
219/219 .525"/.525" .560"/.560" 112
thanks,
joel
Based on your motor, I think you just need a bigger cam. 400 RWHP is going to require about 230 @ .050 deg intake duration. A 230 244 cam would get you there. Comp cams 306 is a good choice. Speed Demon has some of their own grinds that will work well too.
Get some Ford motorsport injectors. They work great. I replaced my Accel injectors with great results.
How would I know if a rod was bent ??
I was going to buy a set of injectors from DRM. Last time I checked, it was around $400.
Thanks again,
Joel
