Oh where Oh where is Rick's car…...…at the Dealership?
Still in the rental. The dalership is also having trouble tracking down the problem. Good to know its not just me.
At least I'm enjoying this nice new ride for now. They put me in a loaded 2011 GMC Terrain. I can actually hear a conversation over the exhaust. The seats are covered with soft perforated leather with trim stiching. It has On Star, backup camera, fully adjustable heated seats, remote start, XM Radio, etc..
Maybe they are just trying to get me to buy a new vehicle. I have to say though this ECO 4 cylinder just sucks. I'm saving tons of money in gas but I feel like Im going to get run over trying to pull out in traffic. I'm in the process right now of looking for a new daily driver over the Vette.
I'm going to call the dealership in a few minutes to get an update.
I just got the call back from the dealership. They said they found the short and fixed it. They said the main wiring harness by the motor and transmission dip stick somehow get frayed and was shorting out. I haven't seen it to know exactly what they are talking about.
Anyone have a pic of this harness or area? How the hell does this effect the tail light circuit? They broke the fuel rail schrader valve while fixing the wiring issue so they are waiting on a new valve and I'm not getting it back just yet. I had a digital fuel gauge sensor attached to it but is supposedly wasn't damaged.
So was this just a strange coincidence that this harness got frayed while the front was being painted?? I'm now wondering how much of this they will try to charge me for, including the rental. Thoughts?
Wires that go to the tail lights are in a bundle that go by the dipstick and if abrasion removes the wire insulation, the tail light wire can intermittently short to ground and blow the fuse.

hmm..
Is this something that could have occured by pulling the hood, front bumper cover, impact foam, etc. off of the car for repairs? I rolled over an office chair. I don't know how far down the harness is. I don't guess a piece of that could have severed it. Wishfull thinking maybe. I dont have the car back in my possession yet to inspect it.
Assuming it was in the collision dept because you were in an accident then it is either part of the accident damage or they broke it while fixing the accident damage. Either case they should be hard pressed to bill you and if they do I would use a credit card and dispute the charges as either case it is not your fault in that worked fine had accident does not work anymore and it does not matter why actually. If they broke the schrader valve fixing a wiringing harness you have to ask yourself just how careful or handy they are with tools..sigh..
