Default Distributor shaft problems.

Hey, I was changing out my pickup coil, trying to fix a code 42 and I think I messed up my distributor. There's a star shaped "impeller" I guess you call it, at the top that has 8 points on it and an outside ring. When I put it back together the points are rubbing the side so the distributor takes some force to spin. Should I replace the distributor or do you guys think it would rub back to normal after running for a few minutes. I also noticed the star shaped impeller thingamabob was turning independant of the shaft.. like it was worn so it wasn't firmly attached to the shaft anymore.

Thanks,
Mike

You maybe able to adjust the pickup coil but I think you found the cause of the 42. The reluctor has come loose from the shaft. Time for a new distributor.

Yea, I just went back outside and I hammered on it a little to get the reluctor a tiny bit lower to line up better with the outside ring. Now it just spins without any resistance around the shaft. At least now i know what was wrong though :D

The only distributor I could find new was the Accel 9109 from Jegs and Summit. Around $189. You may be able to get it rebuilt for less. I was quoted 130 to rebuild

The only distributor I could find new...
It may be the cheapest (nothing wrong with that!), but it's not the only one...
