I just bought a new oem fiberglass top. Any tips on adjusting the mounts any certain torque specs . I removed the front mirror and pillar to access the mounts. Any tips well be appreciated.
Get it "close" first. Loosen the brackets "on" the targa so that they can move a bit to line up with the existing brackets (still tight) on the car. Tighten the targa brackets up at this point.
Now loosen the car's targa brackets to adjust the "height" of the top. The back of the top should be level with the top exterior "halo" panel. "Eyeball" the gap in the front for the height...then check with water (garden hose) to ensure you have a good seal (gasket is compressed enough to allow a goodseal). You may need to adjust the window stop's height for the new targa/adjustments.
Don't want to hijack thread but wondered about the small moulding that goes around the edge of the fiberglass roof. On my 88, the moulding has slipped off at the front edge and I can't seem to get it back in place. Looks like it should slip right on but doesn't. I think I may have pulled it away in storing it in the hatch and then getting it back out. Thanks for any suggestions.
Twin40,
Are you talking about having a lot of cracks in the top's finish or actually in the fiberglass? If in the fiberglass, this is probably indicative of the top not being installed properly (i.e., on level ground and torqued properly, etc.) or there being something structurally wrong with the body allowing it to flex too much. Another option is that it might have been previously abused on rough roads at high speeds??? What is the history of the cracks? Do you know if they all occurred at about the same time or have gradually gotten worse and worse?
