Default L98 power

so as i understand it, TPI is well junk for the most part when it comes to flowing air...

so what does a guy have to do that wants to get over 300whp on a naturally aspirated l98? can you do away with the tpi and go another route?

what does that do delete the plentum and stuff?

from what ive seen looks like heads and cam wont even do much for me becuase the restriction is ahead of that.

basically im looking for as close to 350whp as i can get as cheaply and reliably as possible

also, what is the bottom end capable of holding?

IIRC, it becomes the plenum and manifold so that is your restriction removed.

Now you probably will need heads, cam and a tune

gotcha, are these heads worth having ported or are they crappy?

anyone know what kinda power stock heads/cam will do with that intake setup?

also...what are stock fresh clutches good for?

thanks

Lingenfelter did port the Corvette D-Port heads and made about 430HP at the crank IIRC but that is with the SuperRam intake and a different cam. So yes, you can port the heads or get better heads out of the box from say AFR.

They ported the heads, changed all the hardware on the thing. Valves, springs, etc, etc.

I made a mistake. I forgot the 430 crank HP was with a 383. Not sure what the bottom will take but I think that is a little much if the block is tired.

To give you an idea, I am pushing 410 at the wheels. 350 isn't far behind me.

I've got about the highest power for a N/A TPI here I think, 326 rwhp and 400 lb/ft.

You can only go so far with the TPI...here is my build http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c4/joe90/index8.shtml

Lots of magic to make all the TPI stuff work, but the torque is enormous. I road race and AutoX and have mountains of torque out of the corners. If you plan to drag race, a MiniRam is your best bet.

gotcha Aklim, do you have an aftermarket hood so the stealth ram will clear?

are there any thoughts regarding stealth ram v.s. miniram? besides the side difference? seems like the stealth is a bit cheaper

That is pretty good for a 355. It took me a 383 to achieve 410 rwhp

No, cut a hole and stick a Greenwood Hood Scoop.

UMC makes a stealth ram that will clear the hood. Not sure exactly what the difference is between the original and modified.

gotcha, probably would be better to just go with the miniram then since the cost of having the hood repainted would be more then the price difference..

I didn't have the hood repainted. I had the scoop painted to match

If your bodyshop can't do it, there might be some other issue. Mine didn't blend anything.

Sure. You just cannot simply slap on a 58mm TB and expect it do do anything. You need the supporting stuff like the plenum and manifold, etc, etc.
