I ran my Auto X-ray looking for problems and a code 52 came up (Oil Temp Gauge) ?? I noticed that the Gauge needle inside the car doesn't work and is stuck on a low reading.
What can I do about this mess? Is their a sensor somewhere that could be broke or is it the Gauge itself?
Re: Hey guys need help....code 52??? (Kevin McGrade)
Hi Kevin,
I've read a code 52 is in the engine oil temp. circuit. Low temp. indicated. Cause, check the connections at switch, replace? I see a switch mounted in the oil pan, maybe it. Also says replacement may not cure problem. Guess it would be a place to start?

Hi, thanks for the reply
I believe the car is getting the eroor code(52) due to the oil tempeture switch isn't sending anything to the guages but it isnt throwing a service engine soon light on the DIC. I found the problem looking for something else.
I am not sure where the tempeture sensor is located but I thought it was between the plugs on the passenger side. I looked and there and found a sensor that is connected and looks fine, Is there any others?
I t don't think this is anything to serious because the car runs great and the engine temp still reads as it should.
Re: Hey guys need help....code 52??? (Kevin McGrade)
You may be right, this book isn't real clear, but it shows it to be on the drivers side. The diagram doesn't show just where. Something is pluged into the side of the oil pan with wires, so I thought that might be it. Someone here will know for sure.
Re: Hey guys need help....code 52??? (Kevin McGrade)
Hey, on an L98(might not be the same) it is right above the oil filter. Check the wire connection, also these things are known to wear out(usually they just get really innacurate).

I will check it out, What does it look like? and do I need to drain th oil to replace?
Re: Hey guys need help....code 52??? (Kevin McGrade)
Hey McGrade( :p: ), I don't think you need to drain the oil. The only stuff you will lose is the little bit that is sitting on top of the oil filter, probably less than a pint.
I don't really remember what it looks like. The part that goes into the block looks like a thick thermometer. I think the part coming out of the block looks just like a bolt, but with a wire connection on it.
That is, if thats where it is on an LT1, I don't see why they would change it though.
The reason I think I may need to change it is because my Oil Temp guage isn't working at all and I figured i would start there. I still haven't got under the car yet hopefully this weekend it won't snow
