My 87 Vette starts right up after sitting for an extended period. When running or after the engine warms up it will start but have to crank it several times. I understand the MAF burn off relay(s) could be the cause. Why are there 2 relays (purpose)? Am on the right track? Easy to change out found them on the firwall directly behind the battery. Any feedback is much appreciated.
There are two relays for the MAF, one is for the heating element for mass burn off and the other supplies 12v power to the MAF. There are a lot of reasons why you have difficulty with hot starts but I doubt very much if either relay is responsible. The MAF power relay is more likely and you can prove it is working properly by measuring to see if 12v is at the purple wire on the MAF during a hot start. See if you have a hot spark during a hot start. If not, replace the spark module in the distributor, they commonly get weak when hot at old age.

...i have and have always had that exact same problem...not (in my case) a relay problem but, could be leak-down injector problem...just not willing to pull injectors...each time i start car, i put car in "flood mode" and crank then.
