Default Recommended tire pressure?

Hey guys,
What is the recommended tire pressure for a 93 with 285 front and 255 rears. The tag in the door jam must have been replaced when the car was painted. I have 9.5 inch rims all around, but the dumb **** who replaced the tires before me put the standard sizes on instead of the Z07 275's all around.

Look on the sidewall of the tire. That is the recommended pressure. Whatever they put in the door jamb is just for ride comfort.

Uh no offense or flaming intended but this is a common misconception. The mark on the side of the tire is the "maximum" recomended pressure if the marked weight were placed up that tire. This is from the tire manufacturer. I don't have access to my car but I pulled this info on Goodyear GSC's from Tire Rack's website. 275/40ZR17 is rated for a "max" load 1433lbs at a "max" inflation of 44 PSI. That's per tire, multiply 1433 by 4 and you come up with 5732lbs. If your vette weighs that much it's time to clean out the ash tray. Each vehicle will have it's own recomended tire pressure. I know this doesn't answer the original question but I'm sure someone can shed more light from their actual experiances. I inflate mine to 30 psi front and rear. I seem to get a good balance between wear and performance at this pressure. Again this what has worked for me. What works for you will depend on your tires and style of driving. I'm sure others can give you a better answer.

I know the high speed recommended pressure is 35psi all the way around. I believe (cars under cover) the standard pressure for comfort is 30psi. On that note, I run 36psi in the front and 34psi in the rear for even wear. Michelin Pilots XGT Z4.

Thanks guys. I wonder if I can get a new sticker for the door jam from one of the catalog companies. I'll have to check.

Hope it was a typo - the 285s go in the rear and the 255s go in the front. However, if someone sold you the wrong sizes, go back and make a lot of noise in front of their customers. Also, in my humble opinion, you need to check the work done next time before you pay.

For pressure, use 30 all the way around. Adjust higher if autocrossing or on the track, etc. Good luck.

It was a definate typo. The tires were on the car when I bought it so I have no idea where they were from. Thanks for the info.

HTRK-1 - Sorry - I misread & thought you bought the tires. You will find that the 255/45s are "stretched" quite a bit on 9.5 rims, so I wouldn't try to pull 1.0 G's on the skid pad :) Maybe you can find two more 285s from the same maker & sell off the 255s?????

Good luck with your new car though - those Z07s were a good combination.
