Want to do some of your own EPROM programming? Check this out:
If anyone is in need of a Memcal/ZIF/ECM/EPROM adapter, a few Flash chips, or a ZIF or two, just let me know. If you have any questions, give me a shout.
My question is whether or not the device will work in a computer with the ESC controls on the MemCal. Ex.: 91 Vette with '727 ECM
Here's part of another thread I found but I'm just wanting to verify this with you.
Those of you using the Craig Moates ZIF adaptor, does this eliminate the need for de-soldering/soldering, etc? Yes, it goes between your stock MEMCAL and the ECM and retains the Limp home chips and the Knock module (if it is a 7730/7727 ECM) 165 ECM has the seperate ESC under the hood.
I don't see those parts on the adapter.
Is the statement above completely true?
Can I tune without them?

Thanks much and best regards.
you use your stock chip in conjunction with Craig's adapter. I use his adapter on my '90 and it works great. The 727 ecm actually has more room than the 165/730, so the whole thing fits under the cover with no clearance problems! I love it.
To make it a little more clear (I think). Craigs adapter basically routes the pins from the limp home chips and esc if 7730/7727 from the stock memcal (still used) to the ECM. It ignores the pins from the stock chip on the memcal and uses the ones from your chip that you put in his adapter. Simple and slick.
i just installed this adapter and reprogrammed the the at29c256 chip, and i have to say not having to use the uv eraser and the zif socket, makes tuning alot faster. i would definitely recommend getting the package.
