Default 86 Corvette Fuel Pump???

Hello fellow Corvette Owners,
I recently bought a 1986 Corvette with the L98. I got it for a reasonable price as the fuel pump wasnt working on the car. The Previous owner had tore it apart and lost the fuel pump assembly, so basically I have a basket case! I talked to someone at Corvette America, and he told me that a fuel pump from a 89 would work on a 86 and that the only issue I may have is a bad fuel indication, since the sending unit is different. So with this advise I bought a fuel pump assembly on ebay, well today it showed up and the plugs are completely different! Everything else seems to be fine but until I get the right plug I cant get it to work. Has anyone ever done a conversion like this? If I find the male plug from a 86 could I simply change the plugs? Also on the plug, each wire has a letter above it. They are as followed, the black wire has the letter "A", the purple wire has the letter "B", and the Grey wire has the letter "C". Now my question is whether anyone knows what each wire is for, such as Ground, Power ect. Any help and advice is appreciated and Thanks guys in advance!

86 is,

Tan/white= pump power
Pink=gauge level input
Black=ground

According to the FSM

I only have the 89's pump electrical, and it's,

Tan/white=pump power
Black=ground

Thanks that's a plus, but on my fuel pump assembly that is the 89, the wire colors are black(which Im assuming is the ground), purple and grey. As I mentioned earlier they have letters above each and I was noticing that the plug on the car has these letters too. Since the plug on the fuel pump assembly is four prong and the plug on the car is three prong, they dont plug into each other, but it should work if I splice them and put them together matching the correct wires, right? Thanks again

The units wire colors may be different, but you should be able to trace the units wires and figure out what each wire does.
