87 Corvette Convertible--which differential?
Doing an engine rebuild [automatic tranny also removed] on a 1987 and need to replace differential pinion/drive shaft oil seal. Need to buy the shop manual but can someone tell me upfront if differential is a d36 or d44[8.5] on the 87? Ive seen both referenced here on the forum but am too new to the project to sort it out. Thanks.

Automatic transmissions were generally Dana 36 and manual transmissions were Dana 44. Look on the underside of your interior consol lid where you will find the factory option listing ans see what is listed there.

Most likely it's a D36, you can spot them out :
The D44 does not have the top bolt , double check
because it might be covered in grease and won't be very visible
i'ts better to use your hand and feel it
