i have 700r4 when i am at wot and shift from 1 to 2 i have a hesitation (flare up then my car will shift would my computer have anything to do with this beings i have several mods and changed the rear end gear.
I don't think the computer has anything to do with it. The only thing the ecm does for a 700r4 is lock up the torque converter in 4th. I would say welcome to the world of the 700r4 failures. They just can't stand up to the power. Check out my web site for what I am doing to solve this problem. Very expensive, but I'm hoping it won't fail.
The Gear Vendors unit is about $2500, that's just for the overdrive that you bolt to the back of a TH400. You can pay whatever you want for a th400. I have about $1500 into mine, that's with a torque converter. Then you need to do all the work to change it over which you may have read on the special page on my web site. Or you can just keep putting in a new 700r4 every couple years. I know there are going to be bunches of guys posting now about how great their 700r4's are and saying I am a dummy for doing what I'm doing. Oh well. That's what's nice about America, freedom of choice to spend my money the way I want to. I just wish I hadn't spent $2500 on a "super tough bullet-proof 600hp capable" 700r4 piece of junk that only lasted me 5000 miles. Anybody wanna buy a nice core with probly a bunch of good parts in it?
Well, there are supposedly many people running around with 900 h/p on th400 trannies without any problems. The Gear Vendors unit is rated for 1200 h/p as it sits in my car. And they back that up with a 2 yr. unlimited mileage warranty. They say if you want to run more h/p you order it for whatever h/p up to 2000. They also will sell me another one for $500 if I break this one after 2 yrs.
My son also has a problem on his 700r4. He left work and all of a sudden lost 3rd and 4th. 1st, 2nd and reverse are fine. 3rd and 4th just don't exist and when you shift it to 3rd, it feels like you hit neutral. Ditto for 4th. But the shift from 1st to 2nd is real hard and crisp. I wonder if the trans is toast. Maybe it is time for a turbo 400. does anybody else have experience with this problem?
That's exactly how my first 700r4 behaved when it failed. I have seen other people report the same thing. The tranny is gone. Do a th400 and spring for the Gear Vendors too. Good luck.
Mine wont shift from 1-2 under WOT unless I let up on the pedal for a sec. I had it looked at this weekend by a tranny guy and he told me it is most likely the govenor. I called Jeff Kopp today and he said the govenor retails for $33.33. My tranny guy is going to replace it for me on Wednesday or Thursday. Ill keep everyone updated as to if that helped the problem. He is also going to do a custom valva body/shift kit job on the tranny while he has it in the air. He claims that he can set it up to where my stock L98 rips one shifting to 3rd. Not sure I want all that, but we'll see what happens. If the tranny is toast, it couldnt hurt to see if this is the problem. Cost...$150 (includes the governor) Keep you posted.
I should know something Wednesday or Thursday on my tranny. The governor is ordere and should be in around then. My shift from 2-3 and 3-4 is clean and sharp. I cant bark the tires, but that will soon change...hopefully.... :D
