Since I've got all four brake calipers off the car ('89 coupe) for rebuilding and powder coating, I figured now is a good time to replace the stock rubber hoses with steel braided lines.
I'm aware of the various brands out there (Russell, Earls, DRM, VB&P, Goodridge, etc...) but I'm curious to hear if there's one particular brand/product that's better than the others? And/or is there a brand to avoid?
I'd also like to know any good places to get these from. Obviously, the DRM and VB&P lines are only available from their respective sources, but I'm sure the others can be purchased from other retailers. Who's got the best price?
Got my Russel brake lines on Ebay or $98 from a private seller after Summit kept back ordering them. Seems like a hard number to to stock.
Good results for me, pedal seems to be more responsive and firmer.
Stay away from Russell. I bought a set for my old 92 and the rears were so short that if I raised the rear to get a wheel off the ground, the line would stretch tight.
Go with Earl's or Goodridge. Both Summit Racing and Jeg's carries Earl's and Goodridge is available from Tire Rack. Figure on somewhere around $125 delivered for a set.
The DRM sets use an adapter to replace the OEM-style banjo fitting and bolt. The Earl's or Goodridge lines are direct replacements for stock hoses.
Hi everyone. Thanks for all the good feedback. Seems the Goodridge product is getting the nod from many here.
I've looked on the Summit and Jeg's websites, and can't seem to find either the Goodridge or the Earls brake lines. Have the Earls lines been discontinued? I know Tire Rack sells the Goodridge lines, but does anyone else have a source for the Earls lines?

I tried goodridge - could never get the lines to route correctly and had one fail at the banjo fitting.
Replaced with Earls lines and - much better fitment and no issues. However after 3 years of track use its time to change them this winter.

Summit Racing. They have a warehouse 45min from me so I just called and had my wife pick them up. I love having them so close - they even had a white box opti so I didn't have to wait forever.
Earls with Speed Bleeders. Can't remember how many years they've been on but it's been a while. No problems with them. I probably purchased them from Summit Racing.

I've got a set of Speed Bleeders (in stainless steel) on the car already. Great investment - worth every cent! Would highly recommend to anyone, whether you're rebuilding your calipers or not.
But I can't seem to find the Earl's lines anywhere! Neither Summit Racing nor Jeg's lists them in their online catalogues. I've visited the Earl's website (thanks for the link JrRifleCoach ) but they aren't listed. All I can find are Hyperflex components, but no specific kit for our cars... or any cars for that matter. Am I looking in the wrong place(s)?
I went with DRM lines a few years back and they have been great. I work on the brakes a lot and have accidentally dropped the caliper with no damage to the line or fittings.

hmm.. I wonder if they stopped selling the kits. I would call Summit Racing or Holley. You may be stuck with another brand.
