Default Paxton S/C question

I'm looking at a paxton S/C with all the parts. The unit came out of a TPI car, but he put at least 8k miles on it. I don't know the total miles.

The person upgraded to a bigger one, but I am wondering what it costs to get the unit rebuilt if it did need it, and what to look for to tell if it's junk, besides the obvious impeller stuff or something.

How long due they last?
He claims oil change every 3k.

Any help input be great

This is the place all the old Paxton SC people hangout.

Read back a few pages of posts to get a feel for these old "ball drives", and what it costs to rebuild them.
Pretty easy to rebuild yourself also.

I bought one new for a 88TPI IROC-Z over 10yrs ago. It was a successful install and went like hell. Some things I didn't like were; the belt tensioner was of questionable design and had constant belt slip issues. The crankcase vent was plumbed into the air inlet before the MAF sensor and resulted in breaking a couple sensors. The head unit had an oil reservoir instead of a feed.... 50-75hp is a lot to cool with a less than a quart of oil and no fins. The idler bearings failed often as well. It ran methanol injection via the windshield washer reservoir.. this was surprisingly quite effective. I only saw approximately 5k before the car was sold and then the next owner blew the motor.

Not sure if any of this helps but would I do it again?... Absolutely!
