I have a USB to serial converter somewhere. It works with a computer with no serial interface. Never had an issue with it. You'll need a cable with a serial interface, though. If you can get access to a cable you can borrow my interface to see if it's a cable issue. I haven't been using it, because I don't like all the extra wires. That's why I bought an old laptop.
You are probably correct. Ive had the 6E definition file a long time. Even before I started doing my own chips. I dont think the difference would effect this problem, would it ??????
No it wouldn't, just wanted to make sure if he tried going to a stock burn that the correct type would be used.
I use a generic USB <--> Serial adapter I picked up at Staples with a gift card and it works just fine. I use EASE Scan Tool in WIn7 as I haven't yet bought an APU1.
Know anyone with something like an old Snap-On ODB1 scanner? I'd be interested if any tool at all can scan the car ok. If you're running a 6E tune then telling the <insert tool> it is an '89 will probaly have to happen.

I wonder if one of those cheap code readers that are used at advanced or autozone could communicate??? Throwing darts......
Code readers really just ground the two ALDL connectors same as paper clip trick, that much will work. I can pull codes and drove it in Diagnostic Mode yesterday.
I dont know anyone in TN with the tool nearby, I guess I'll have to wait til I get back to the shop in Smyrna tuesday and talk with the tuner who burned it. The various programs I've used shouldn't care too much but I believe both the Tunerpro and Datamaster were tried for 89. I tried everything I could think of and used the Datamaster troubleshooting (latency in the Com port, ALDL link timing, etc.). Nothing reads.
Well, talked to the chip tuner today. He didnt datalog when he burned the chip. He had a scan tool to read the BLMs and an LM1 wideband clipped on the tailpipe while she was on the dyno. He originally had trouble burning the chip but Craig Moates helped him through it.
So it looks like I still can't read anything on my laptop, but in principle you can because I watched them read the scan tool values with a GM reader.
Sent an email off to TTS, but wont get any answer til Monday I guess.
Also used their D32 64-bit driver for the Win7 system beforehand.
I have had many different programs not run on a 64 bit windows platform. If yours is a 64 bit machine why not borrow a standard 32 bit laptop and see if it is the laptop and not the software?
