Have a few guestions that need clearing up so came to the experts.
Just got my 1986 back yesterday from a Corvette expert had a bad head gasket. He had it a month, also put in E3 plugs, new Dist. cap and oil and such and a low Temp fan switch on right side, Picked it up,and it was leaking on thermostat housing. Inside digital gauge pegged at 299 and red bar and now have exhaust leak on left side. I thought all Temp sensors that rans the digital guages are by the water pump according to my manual,. sensor on right side was to cut on fans. And whaat sensor is on the drivers side with one wire going into the wiring harness for the alternator? Thanks Guys any help appreciated.

Ya Gota Love Corvette Experts
Low temp fan switch dose mount on driver’s side, normal switch mounts on passenger side. Engine temp switch is in manifold on L98, the fan switches are controlled by a signal from the ECM based on engine temp ( stock on @ 227 off @ 216 I believe. He more than likely ran the new sensor wire into the plastic covering for the wire loom at that spot then ran it into relay inside of wheel well. Take it back and get your expert to fix the exhaust leak, & water leak and explain to you how things should work & @ what temps the new switch will come on & off at.
Good Luck

Here are pictures of the 3 items you're asking about.

Temperature sensor for the dash gage. Notice it has a spade
lug connector.

Fan temperature switch. Controls the auxiliary fan in front of the radiator.
If you unplug the connector and with the ignition On, ground the wire and
the fan should run.

Notice it has a round mushroom shaped connector.

ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) Located above the water pump screwed
into the front edge of the intake manifold. Has a 2 wire electrical connector.
This sensor is what the computer uses to turn on the Main fan located behind
the radiator. On the diagnostic connector above the drivers right knee if you
short pin A to pin B and turn the ignition ON, the fan should run.
