Oil Change

Oil Change
Hey everyone. Well, I've decided to change the oil myself on my 96. I'm going to use synthetic. How difficult of a job is it? Is it just like a regular oil change? Also, how many quarts are needed and what weight oil should I use?

Did you get an owners manual with the car?
If not, you can download one here in pdf format:

All questions can be answered by reading the manual.
You'll get multiple opinions here. My opinion is to follow the owners manual recommendations.
Note: Be sure and read the part about resetting the oil life monitor.

It's just like regular oil but just costs more. The LT1 takes just under 5 quarts. In central Florida where it's hot and hotter and not much of a winter I use 10-30 (as book instructed). Always use the weight for the season you going into. (5-30 is recommended for below 0.0 F).
I usually change the oil and filter and put about 4.5 quarts in, then run it for a minute. Let it sit for a while and top it off to the full mark (if necessary). I always have a little oil left over and just keep to add at a later time.

It's easy, the hard part is getting the car up high enough to get under. I use Rhino ramps and it still isn't quite as high as I would like, but have no problem reaching the drain plug and filter. Just go with a high quality filter.
