I read somewhere here on the forum that some fuel injector cleaners are bad for the electronic fuel injection system on Corvettes. I have a 96 and want to know what types are safe to use? :chevy
alot of fuel injector cleaners will affect the insulation within the injector and cause it to short out. GM sells a cleaner at $34. a bottle to add to the gas. It is expensive but maybe safer. I added a bottle 1 week ago and the car set a code (32) within 30 miles...the first code in 10 yrs. GM said it was coincidence. I replaced the EGR and the EGR solonid yesterday. So far, no more codes.
Run the Chevron with Techron. If they need a real cleaning, pull them and have them cleaned ultrasonically (is that a word?). We do them for $15 each, they are flowed first, then cleaned and flowed again. So you can see the results.

I used the 3 part fuel injector cleaner. It didn't do anythign b/c I think my injectors are beyond cleaning. I think they are the problem for my bog, so I'm probably going to change them out.
There are at least two types of injector cleaners. The solvent based cleaners can be more aggressive and have the potential to cause damage. The second flavor I'm familiar with is the detergent variety. The Red Line cleaner uses detergents. I once used some car parts house solvent cleaner on my 90. Forgot the name. Didn't run very good for about 100 miles then smoothed out. I now prefer detergents.
Keep the faith.
