Well, I had to work on it anyways to clearance the 1.6 rockers. :) So I refinished it also. It decided to only take it under a wire wheel lightly to rough up the surface, and then prime paint right over the existing paint/primer. This worked out good as GM smeared these things in primer originally to hide the nasty casting marks. I'm happy with the results. The new emblem is just laying on the cover, so yeah it looks funky.
These are the 4 of them that I have. The one that I busted and says junk is how I took it out of my car. I did clean the grease/grime off in our kerosene tank, but that is how it looked on the car. Beneath that is what aircraft spray on paint stripper and some scrapers do. Beneath that one is what sandblasting and a wire wheel does. :)

Nice looking covers Scorp. Look mighty familiar...LOL I will be doing my new covers black next week. Just finishing up tearing the top end down. The usual intake gasket leaks....So I figured while I am there....you know how that goes. :smash: :smash:

When do I get to see the finished result at Raceway Park, or do I have to come up to the MA dragway.:D
Well..... as soon as the car is done it gets a MAJOR shakedown run. 1100 miles to Bowling Green. Should make for an interesting trip. :D We should know if she'll hold together by the end of that week, then I'll certainly be at E-Town again.

DAMN!!! Scorp those look incredible.. Sh%$ now you have me thinking of instead of trying to do them on I might just have to pull them off and paint them black!!! Guys like you just make more work for us
PS: Did you have to replace the Corvette emblem, do it in place or just pull it off and reattach it?

It's got a sticky backing/foam on the back of it. Yank it off, scrape the backing off that stays, refinish them, and stick the new one on. :) The damn things cost like $40.
Look good  I went the opposite and had mine painted original metal gray. I really like the newer lt1/lt4 black. I will post a pic of mine... Looks great man
Thanks everyone! I have a can of the original paint color on standby in case I don't like them for some reason. I think it will go great with the black superram. :)
But it really sets it off! :yesnod: Really stands out.
Thanks everyone! And yes those emblems are pricey. I'll tell you what though. I can't find it at the moment, but there is another nice trick you can do.
I took the dirty, faded, old emblem off of one of those covers and sprayed some paint stripper on it and let it sit. The paint on the emblems wipes off very easily and leaves you with a beautiful bare aluminum emblem that could also look very nice on the cover.

Where did you buy the emblem from? I have checked Midam and Eckler's and nobody has one.
