Default external clutch slave on high performance 383

Is anyone using the factory or aftermarket external clutch slave on their high performance build C4?

I have been using a RAM clutch with the internal hydraulic release bearing.

On this car, I think the internal hydraulic is a bad idea anyway.

I continue to have leaking release bearing ( slave cylinder ) issues

I would prefer to have a high performance clutch that uses an external slave cylinder if there is something availabe.

I am running about 440hp at the crank.

thanks in advance for your help

I ran my 4+3 stock stuff (aftermarket clutch) at/above that level with no issues.

do you have a pedal stop for your ram hydraulic release bearing? does it come with an internal stop?

You might just be overextending and causing leakage.

I did not put a peddle stop in with this set up and I am thinking this could be the problem. the release bearing did not come with an internal stop. The release bearing movement appears to be in spec. but maybe I am over pressurizing it.

So are you still using the dual mass flywheel?
I can't imagine the stock clutch lasting very long
I am drag racing this car.

It would be so much easier to go back to the external slave

yeah I would bet you are overextending and blowing fluid past the seal. However you should be fine with an external slave too, just need to step up the disk and pressure plate.

Before my 383 spit a lifter into the cam sprocket I was using a stock slave for the clutch.

Aftermarket stage 2 clutch and steel single mass flywheel.
My dual mass was out of spec.

Yep with those little internal self contained hyd style release brgs you have to be careful not to over extend them. At one time (15yrs ago) we used them on our oval track race cars.

I personally use the stock external slave on my 92. My car makes over 480RWHP and has no problems with the slave or the pull style clutch.

If you want to get away from the pull style clutch your options on TOB are limited.... I'd suggest setting up a peddle stop. I take it all your stuff - clutch and TOB are from RAM?? Some people are using the Howe hyd TOB with success on the ZF6.
