My '84 Vette has been in storage for a couple of years, when parked it was running fine....now it starts and sounds like running on about 6 cyls...."check engine light stays on"....idles rough when trying to accelerate it bogs down and dies..it has crossfire injection....thanks in advance...
2 years..could be just about anything...did you put fresh gas in it? Change the fuel filter? Pull the plugs? Also check for codes and get back to us. Those are the places to start
Thanks for your reply....I tried the easy things first...I replace the oxy sensor and fuel filter...no improvement...I have not pulled the plugs, I just had it tuned up prior to stowage...can new plugs go bad ? I have not replaced gas as I filled tank when stowed....you mentioned codes....I'm sorry I don't know how to check or where to get them...do you think I have to send i to a dealer and get robbed? thanks again ...
We need more info to help. It would be $ well spent to get a code scanner to at least pull the codes easily (ie: autoxray, etc). I can tell you how to pull them with a paper clip on a 92 but I don't know if it works on a 84. Maybe someone will jump in here.
You need a paperclip...
Engine off
Key on
Ground the ALDL (just above your right knee when sitting in drivers seat) Ground the upper right hand two pins togther with the paperclip
Watch the Check engine light. It will blink a code 12 three times then the stored codes three times each then another code 12 three times.
x=a blink - = a pause
x xx - x xx - x xx (stored codes) x xx - x xx - x xx
Two year old gas. Yikes! Have you heard any stories of what can happen to lawn mowers, snow bloweres Etc. if you let gas sit in the systems until the next season.
I know y'all are probably tired of me by now, but I really appericiate the help...Jon I used paper clip just as your diagram....but the check engine light stays on and get no blinks...would bad gas make the light stay on? after changing filter the gas looked clean and ok....can the plugs go bad from sitting? I guess I will change the plugs next....I wonder why I can't get the codes to show?
