Default Question about Heads

Don't know to much about heads. But these are what I'm looking at:

1. AFR 190cc (74cc)
2. Trick Flow 23 Degree Heads (64cc)
3. Port the stock heads ?

Angle plug or stright plug? Looking to put LPE headers on it too. Along with the SR in the garage.

Any input would be appreciated.

Are you using the stock bottom end? if so.. your current heads are 58cc and you have a 9.5:1 compression..

if you got the AFR 190 and left it at 74cc you would get roughly 8.5:1 compression
if you got the TF 23deg with the 64cc you would get roughly 9.0:1 compression

for the cost of porting the stock heads to come close to either of the others for flow, I would get the AFR190 and have AFR mill them to 58cc

Well, you really need to outline your goals with the car IMO before deciding to drop the $ on an aftermarket casting :)

your current heads are the D ports i believe, so you can port them if youre only looking for a modest gain. Otherwise get AFRs

Coupe89,

I would not waste my money on the stock vette heads. Only so much you can do them, and the return value for the money you'd have to spend...just isn't there.

I can only speak for the Trick Flow heads...Twisted Wedge is what I run.

Awesome horsepower.

I'm so glad the plugs are 'angled' on these heads. It makes it easier when installing plugs...especially with the headers I'm running.

You bring up a good point when asking about 'straight or angled plugs'.
It's definitely worth considering, when trying to make a decision on which way to go.

If you plan to run headers...I would recommend 'angled plug heads'...no matter whose heads you choose to run.

Good Luck!!

I have the AFR 190 heads with the SR setup. You DEFINATELY want the l98 angle plugs if you get the AFRs. If you get the straight plugs, good luck getting the SP wires on with headers...

I'm using the stock bottom end. I was thinking of getting a rebuilt block (396). But the car came with one when I bought it. As for HP I was looking at ~350-450HP enought to keep my buddys ways from me (98 WS6 & 98 C5).

Side note: They didn't like the fact that my car will be done before their last years of payments

I guess in the next couple of week looks like a set of AFR for me.
Thanks for your help!

After the upgrade lets see what blows first transmission or rear end :D

You may want to look at Dart Pro 1 or the new Jegs CNC heads, the Jegs heads are the Cainfiled heads just CNC.

Your stock castings flow to about 350hp; pocket proted & valved to over 400hp.

If you decide to sell them, let me know when and how much.
