Default 1985. I have speedometer problems as well!

Started out that I had no display on any of the cluster, so I sent it off to a reputable repairer. When it came back, still nothing worked right at all but I did get some colored lights. Thrilling. Here is what it does now . . .

1. It does a quick self-test from left to right, with dead spots that change with the next self test.

2. Half the time I get the entire tach lit up without any movement.

3. More often than not, the gas level square lights up and only about 10% of the time is there one green light bar that actually shows the level.

4. Someimes only a portion of the speedometer itself lights up but has never shown an actual speed. Usually the numbers between 80 and 100 don't light up. Sometimes only those numbers light up.

5. The odometer hasn't moved since I got it.

6. The signal light indicaters have always worked fine.

7. A couple of times the oil and temp have shown themselves, but not very often. Once there was a solid red bar for kpa I think it said.

8. The digital speed numbers show half if a number like a backward 67 but doesn't actually show any speed.

So, to summarize, most of the displays when they show only show portions of the display.

My info center buttons don't do anything, but that might be because my dash guages don't move. Does the info center receive the info first and that might be the problem? Any other ideas? ECM?

I have the dash apart now waiting for a new ECM, Burn off unit, etc, so if you have any thoughts, now would be the best time for me to try them.

Thanks

BTW: This was a flood car!

Hi again:

Are there only 2 wire harnesses that connect to the right side of the cluster? I have a double wire on the left side behind the cluster that is not connected anywhere and I am wondering that even though I don't initially see a place where it could connect to the cluster, maybe I'm missing something. Thanks
