96 Corvette not shifting A4
OK here we go... pulled engine for a head and cam swap.
Bought a used 9.5 3000 stall converter. put about 1.5 quarts of fluid in the converter before installing it.
Put engine back in hooked everything up went for test drive and can not get it to shift out of first goes in reverse just fine also1st,2nd.D & OD all stay in first.
Came home checked the fluid it was right but added some more thinking the converter might need some (added 1.5 quarts more)took it for another test drive and still the same thing trans dipstick shows over the limit now.
My test drive was only about 1/8 mile and back.
Any ideals why i'm stuck in first?
Also asr and service asr lights are on now

Did you remember to reconnect the large electrical connector on the transmission case ?
Its for the 1-2, 3-4, Pressure regulator, tcc lockup, pressure feedback switches to the ECM.
If unsure recheck.
Used torque converters can be risky to purchase unless the exact history is known.
Not sure that is your issue though.
