I last posted a week ago about my sputtering 94 vette. After double and tripple checking signals in the ignition system that is only, after checking parts receipts, 5 mos old I had to walk away from the car and then go back to basics. I waited till night and sprayed the ignition wires and found the coil wire lighting up under throttle. I replaced all plug wires and car runs like a champ. Remember whole ignition system is only 5mos old. Dam aftermarket parts!
I was using Autolite Premium Wires, 7mm. The wires were on, along with the rest of the whole new ignition system, for less than 5 mos (opti, icm, plugs, wires, and maf). I had to replace the two brand new icm's twice due to poor manufacturing. Hence, "dam aftermarket parts". So I found myself frustrated and this is why I had to back up and think before going down the wrong diagnostic path. Mind you, I drive my vette everyday till I replace the trans in my other car. The wire that was arcing was the coil to opti wire. I bought, the same brand but this time I put flex cover around the whole wire to make sure no fraction of an inch touches the engine. The biggest problem is that the ignition set up, from the start, is a doo doo design by GM. All we can do is improve on a bad design. One other thing, by oe parts if you can afford. Strongly suggest, no matter the vehicle!

I've noticed the coil to distributor wire on my car arcing sometimes too. I think I'll look into better shielding/isolating it. Might help stablize the idle. And I agree that OE parts are usually best, using parts store branded replacement parts is hit and miss on working correctly.
