Ok, so I'm now on my 3rd rack from ecklers in the past 2 months!. Everyone that they have sent leaks uncontrollably after about a week.
Each time I've installed it I've followed the directions per FSM about bleeding out the fluid. FSM says to let it run and turn the steering wheel back and forth a few times without hitting the stops in order to get the air out.
Is that the proper way to purge the air out? or have any of you done it differently?
the question is where HAVEN'T they leaked from. First was the stub shaft seal, then the next one was from the inner tie rod end (drivers side). They weren't small leaks either. I'd loose a whole quart of fluid within just a few turns.
The only reason I ordered from them was because they had one in stock when no one else had. So I sucked it up and overpaid just to get it.
So far there racks have cost me
2 months of bs, At least 8 hours of additional labor, 3-wheel alignments and have ruined a set of front tires. About 20 phone calls and a lot of yelling from my end. And at least 2 weekends of drive time.
Maybe not all there racks are bad, its just that I had a bad experience with these from them so from my point of view I would not recommend getting one from them.

I would be fed up by now too.
Maybe its time to purchase a good used low mileage Power Steering Rack from a fellow C4 member that You need.
Should not be that hard,
but it is very bad luck you are having with the reman units lately.

Check with the guys at Cardone. They have a great reputation and have helped me in the past. Check it out.
I haven't had any leaks on this 3rd rack since I got it. The car has sat the past week. Went out to the garage today..... huge oil puddle near the drivers side front tire. After some investigation I see the inner tie rod end on that side is the culprit. This will be number 4 in 4 months.
I call them because I'm done with them! I want my full refund and the price of my orginal core I shipped them.Of course, they're fighting me. Telling me they refunded me my orginal core price after they recieved my orginal core...HELLO...You have my orginal core...now I don't have one for the next one I buy.
I don't recommend buying any steering racks thru ecklers... they're junk!
I recently got one for my 89 from a favorite auction site, the seller goes by vettepros. Only about 200 miles on it and no leaks yet. Works like a new one.
