I have a 1985 Corvette that starts and runs and seems to be idleing fine, but as soon as I give it gas it spits and sputters and will not go down the road and will stall out. I am thinking coil or maybe ground. I just gave it new plugs and wires. I have replace the MAF, TPS and several other things. Please if you have any suggestions I would appreciate them very much. I would also appreciate knowing a good corvette mechanic in my area around Springfield, MAssachusetts.
clogged cat check: hold rpm at 1500 for 45sec - exhaust manifold glowing red? clogged cat. no glow looks normal move on.
Check fuel pressure: should have at least 40psi with key on. Does it bleed down fast? sign of leak in injector or return system.
rev engine pressure should increase. Any suspect change fuel filter first.
It's along frame in front of passenger door.
Fuel pump or CAT problems don't always throw codes on ODB1 cars.
Pull a plug wire, stick a screwdriver in it and see how far the spark will jump. If now well over 1/4" somethings wrong.
Check ducting from MAF to Throttle body for holes. Air leaks will make it act really crazy.
Start plugging vacuum lines for same reason.
