Wanted to know if anyone could suggest a good place to get my gears changed and anything else that would be reccomended to replaced. I currently have 2.59 and I have a set of 3.73 gears and a installation kit. We have some pretty good chasssis shop around here but none of them have messed with the 36 or 44 and I would feel alot better with someone with experience with these. I live in East Liverpool, Ohio (it's where Ohio, PA, and WV all meet) and would be willing to ship it but close enough to drive would be great. I'm ready to install my new motor and would like to get it done as quick as possible. I think my new gears are Precision Gears with an installation kit. I think I've had them for about six years now.
If you are willing to ship it a long way and cannot find anyone else close by, contact Trail Transmission in Apache Junction, Arizona. I have a '92 with a 700R4 and 3.73 gears in it. I needed the tranny rebuilt about two years ago and they did a great job. Then after installing the LS3 Hot Cam crate engine last summer, the builder needed some further modifications to the tranny to work with the drive by wire engine. The same shop handled the modifications perfectly. If you have to ship it you might as well consider this shop. The manager's name is Jerry. I'm sure he will remember my car.

Are new gears, "thick" gears?
If not you will need a "3 series" carrier to mount them on
FWIW
Nothing special about the Dana diffs used in these cars
Any reputable diff shop should be able to set gears up correctly. No different than doing a 12 bolt or 9"
Lots of folks might not want to hear this or might flame the post, but who cares...
I have great people at my local Chevy Dealership... unlike the stories I hear on this forum about Chevrolet Dealerships, I have a Dealership nearby that does not screw the customer, so I know its possible there are other dealerships out there that can help someone in your situation.
My story - 2.59 rear, automatic car -
This was about three years ago. I could not do the work because I was really sick. I had them drop the transmission, install a new high stall converter, drop the rear and install 3.54 gears and rebuild the rear with new bearing and internals that needed replacing, replace all U-joints and put it all back together again. I think they bled the brakes too wile they were there. $1200 out the door. I supplied the parts (converter, gears, rebuild kit for the rear, U-joints).
Anyway... its worth it stop by and ask. Don't call on the phone. Go to the dealership and develop a conversation with a service writer and see what they will do. Maybe even talk to the service manager. They may not want to do this kind work at some dealerships but the dealership I go to services all the cars in my Corvette Club with this kind of attention all the time.
What do you have to loose but get an NO for an answer or some God Awful estimate for doing the rebuild.

Yeah they are the thick gears for the 2.59 carrier.
Post this in the regional section of your area. As Rodj stated, you need a competent differential man. These Danas are not that unusual and you should be able to find someone good in your area to do the work.

WOW -that is a super crazy insane deal for all that work/labor!
I used to have a local 4x4 truck place do my gears. They do them daily on all these lift kit equipped Chevys and only charged $350 to put new gears in. As was previously mentioned. these Dana 33's ain't nothing special. Regular ole' techniques work just fine.
What about any other parts replacement, I thought I read on here you should redo the clutch pack, outer axle bearings, and something about needing different thickness snap rings.

How many miles on it?
Well worth replacing the posi clutches for the $60 cost while diff is a part; especially since with the new gears you " may" be driving it harder.
I think my install kit has the seals and all the bearings. I am gonna buy the clutches though thanks. I found a chassis shop by Summit racing said $200 and can turn around in 2 days.

I can overhaul your dana 36 rear, change-set up new gears, and rebuild your posi unit.
