Default Head light door opens half way

1990 c4 RIGHT HAND HEADLIGHT WILL ONLY OPEN HALF WAY. tHE USER MANUAL ADVISES TO TURN **** ON TOP OF HEADLIGHT MOTOR CLOCK WISE TO OPEN MANUALLY. WHEN YOU TURN IT CLOCKWISE IT TRIES TO CLOSE DOOR BUT WILL NOT CLOSE OR OPEN COMPLETELY.

THANKS FOR REPLYS

When the headlight stops, does the motor keep running? If so, you may need something like this. Flip-up headlights tend to go bad. Ecklers and a few other sites have repair and replacement kits. It's usually the gel, one of the gears, or the motor. It sounds like the gel to me considering you turn the **** and it doesn't function properly.

Many of us (including me) are trying to get non-flip lights for our C4s. Unfortunately, all of them look horrible. Except for ones currently under construction by our very own blr33439. I really can't wait for these...

Look at the sticky on top of this forum. Inside is a complete thread on headlight repair -- because problems happen SO often to people.

Either you've got something blocking rotation, stripped gears, or an electrical problem. I bet on gears being the issue.

And, , if rotating the manual **** does the opposite of what you expect, turn it the OTHER way!

Gears, gears, gears....are usually the problem.

Thanks. Yes the motor stops when the headlight door opens half way. There is no noise in the motor like a stripped gear.when turning the manual ****, the door moves part of the way and the **** gets hard to turn. I hesitate to force turning the ****.

The gears are nylon which is why you don't hear noise. The rotation is shut off when resistance to the circuit goes up. There is a bumper on each end of travel where the rotates stops due to resistance. That's when electricity is removed from the motor.

I can't remember if the cover for the motor assm can be removed while still mounted in the car. (so you can inspect the gears) But, I can remember where the sticky thread is that I referred you to.

Look up to the top of the C4Tech section....It's called "The DIY, FAQs, where did my stick go thread". Click and look inside. Find the link to the headlight repair thread. You're one step closer to the truth.
