Default Removing Grant steering wheel adapter

I have a five bolt signature series wheel in my 84 which I'd like to replace with a new factory wheel that I picked up recently. I know everyone has their preferences and I like the original wheel, especially the later model that is thicker.

I'm having issues trying to remove the adapter from Grant. I can't get a regular wheel puller on it as there aren't any bolt holes in the adapter. Nothing to attach the puller to on the hub. Here's the component I'm speaking of exactly.http://grantproducts.com/products/view/455/

I've tried calling Grant with no luck thus far, other than advised to purchase their wheel puller... Again, it needs 3 point to bolt into the wheel. I may be able to use it if I buy smaller fine thread bolts to bolt into where the wheel bolts to the hub. I'm worried this will damage those fine threads though.

I would try using 3" inch long fine thread bolts with your puller to remove that Grant steering wheel adapter.

Threaded right into that adapter where the aftermarket Grant steering wheel adapter bolts on.

Work the threaded lead screw slowly on the puller,
should not take to much force to remove that adapter from the splined center steering column shaft.

I would also gently tap the hub with a hammer while the puller is on it. The vibration will help loosen it.

Try using a flat piece of steel with three holes in it. get three equal lenth bolts that fit the adapter, and just tighten the bolts with the steel piece against the top of the steering shaft. It should just pop off.

Thanks for the assistance everyone. I ended up calling Grant today which was useless, they told me their tool didn't work to remove it and had no idea how to remove it without damage to the column or adapter hub. I ended up using a 6" gear puller and it popped with one full turn of the wrench. It's off, and now I need to order a few parts I found missing behind the wheel before installing the new factory wheel.

Check the parts for sale section if you're interested. (oldalaskaman - PM sent)
