Well, the price for a paint job is $4200. I already have so much money in this car I don’t know if I should add more or sell it and buy newer. The paint has acid rain etching, you have to know it’s there or you can’t see it. I CAN SEE IT!!!!!!!! Otherwise the car is great. Decisions-decisions. Just airing- thanks.
I know what you mean about seeing every little flaw. People look at my car and say its beautiful, I look at it and see every little thing wrong with it. From the looks of your sig pic, I would repaint and keep it. It has low miles, so why not. Just my personal opinion. I plan on a repaint in the future sometime too.:)
No way you can justify this kind of expense unless 1) you're made of money, or 2) the rest of the car is PERFECT and you're going to keep it for show and investment only. IMHO, leave it the way it is and enjoy it.
If she is as nice on the inside as that picture shows her on the outside keep her. Before going the way of a new paint job have a GOOD paint man take a look at her. Can she be buffered out? How about wet sanding of the clear coat?
I know the little flaws are annoying but you are probably the only one that can see them. I can point out every ripple, chip or blemish on both of mine. The Suburban is a totally different story.
If it truly is acid rain etching, have it wet-sanded and buffed out. I say "truly" because many people mistake acid rain etching for clear coat deteriation.
My paint looks like **** but I can't justify spending that sort of money on my daily driver when its going to get covered in salt and crap anyway. Oddly enough, I can justify spending twice that on mods.:D
If the car is worth it to "you", then you should get it repainted. I personally am planning to put my car in for paint soon because I intend to keep the car for a long time and I don't want a different one.
that is a VERY tough question. I am a perfectionist and notice every little flaw in paint(Factory or re-done). Unless you're paying top dollar...or the painter does somehow give a sh** about You and or the quality of His work...typically you'll have a run, some orange peel or some sort of dis-satisfaction. Maybe not...but more than likely.
If you're to do it....take as much off the car yourself(Or with a friend) to save the painter the trouble to do it. Vettes are not too bad(C4's anyway) to paint seeing they dis-assemble fairly simply.
I'm a nut I guess...I'd do it again even now(though I won't) if I had to.
The main issue is what do "you need". If you love that car, attend to the paint finish; else if you're ready for another one go that route.
I would follow the Corvette detailer's manual and go with the least intrusive solution. First get that expert opinion on the best way to clean up the current paint job. Reserve a new paint job as a last resort. And if you're going to have the paint job repaired take some good pics before it goes into the shop!
Well the fact that you would consider selling would indicate you arent real attached. But is your car plus $5000 going to buy you perfection in a later model. Often perfection is created not bought. If its any consolation, you would be doing a great service to the corvette world preserving a fine example pace car. But the unfortunate odds are that it wont be an investment but a great car to own and show.
