I recently had my '93 STOP running one (1) mile from home. AAA flatbed brought me home and after 5+ hours of using the FM's diags did not help. Used all the diags, checked for gas at fuel manifold, good pressure, removed plug wire and had a spark on replacement plug. STUMPED... disconnected neg battery lead and took a 1/2 hour break. Returned and reconnected battery ground and tried to start engine. My friend helping me was standing at the right front passenger tire looking into the front of the engine and while I was trying to start the engine he saw a LARGE spark from the coil to the coil bracket. After removal of coil I discovered a LARGE crack in the plastic coating on the coil. Local GM dealer wanted $435.00 to replace the coil. I ordered a new Delco coil and module from Summit Racing for $181.00 total. GREAT COMPANY! Now car runs better than ever....
Background: I was having intermittent stalling under starting from stop which got progressively worse as weeks went on until total failure. The only code was I think #32 (EGR trouble). The ole eyeball was the only tool that worked. I hope this post might help others. ART
$435.00..to replace a coil!! its a 20 minute job..these dealers are out of their friggin mind...hell I pulled the module in the Autozone parking lot to put the heat sink paste on..took 10 minutes...but then again they have to charge 1 hour labor at over 100.00 per hour..then jack up the parts price..so I guess it adds up to around 400.00...oy
