Default 700r4 transmission

ok I can not switch to P, when the lever is in P the tranny is still in R, looks like I can get through N, (D), D ... is it bad ?

btw what is the difference between (D) and D?

More than likely your shift cable bracket is loose.

You need to crawl under the car and check the two bolts that hold the bracket to the tranny.

D =drive

(D) =overdrive

Put it in (D) and forget it.

(unless you're backing up. Then it's R)

The bracket is either loose on the bottom of the pan or the linkage needs adjustment. Put the tranny in park, loosen the linkage (17mm nut). Push the shift lever forward into park. Tighten the nut and your good to go. D will give you 3rd, (D) will give you forth (overdrive).
