Default New fuel pump...now runs better?????

I know it sounds stupid but I just replaced my fuel pump/strainer sock and took it for a test ride. The darn thing felt like it actually ran smoother, more responsive, and even shifted a little crisper. Can this be true or is it just my imagination????? As far as I know it was the origional pump. And by the way this was the easiest repair I have done on a C4. Literally a half hour job!!!!

more likely than not....

pumps wear out. The pumps primary function is to move fuel at a vol that can keep up with demand. It does this under pressure generated by pumping and the regulator sets how much pressure the injectors actually get. Vol however is strictly up to the pump, filter and strainer.

With good pressure and steady flow, the system runs better and can keep up with demand. Thats why I tell people to observe the behavior of the fuel pressure gauge needle....note the pressure but watch to see if the needle recovers quickly from revving or remains steady like the engine idle. That will tell you if the pump is tired or not. Hope that you have a new filter too..?

75% seat of the pants feeling. Probably 25% fact. If your old pump was not keeping up with the fuel requirements the new pump is now supplying you demand. If you are feeding the need for fuel and the RPM's are increasing faster...you might think the shift is better. Probably the same shift....just more RPM's to push it along.

Now think about new injectors

Yes
The fuel pump has nothing to do with the drive or noid indication of the injectors. As long a s the engine is running regardless of most anything, there has to be a noid indication better known as drive to the injectors.

Why did you replace the pump? What symptoms did you have to determine the pump was bad?

Was getting on it on a really hot day and it just died. Cranked it a few times but no start. Ethered it a couple of times and it would run till the spray ran out. I noticed that the fuel pump didnt ramp up when I turned the key on. Cranked it a few more times and it started but ran rough initially. Figured the fuel pump was probably the culprit as it was origional as far as I knew.

Did you check fuel pressure at the time? As others have said, if it is not pressurizing properly, it might account for the issue
