I have an 89 and I know the interior was redesigned starting in 90. The first year I had the car, I had to remove the whole dash to get access to the heater core area. It was a whole winter long project. I cleaned the whole HVAC, had to fix the AC programmer, and fixed the vacuum source for the AC programmer. Also broke a few pieces and had to get them replaced.
