i have a 1990 vette with i think a bad ecm. i looked on ebay for used ecm and it seems that gm made all them the same numbers (01227727). my chips an anhu 4303. the reason i think ecm is bad is that when i was pulling the codes and got #21. the car would not start up anymore and also i notice the service engine light would not come on at all when you turn the key on. my brother says its the vats system but i was told the vats controls the fuel. this car did sit for 5 years and the gas seem fine when i ran it but i am going to dump the fuel now because it may have water in it. sorry for jumping around with this but until i can get the ecm to work i think i am stuck. so going back to the original question is the ecm on gm models mostly the same?an example is a 1990 buick regal? just need the right chip?
If it is the correct number it will work in your vette. (7727) One thing you need to keep in mind is that the vette ECM is very specific and may not be used in any other cars other then a vette.

Not really. Depends on the year. Example the 165 ECM used 86-89 was also used in many other GM applications. The one I am now using came from a 4 cylinder S10. I have not looked at other years. What is very specific is the CalPac(chip).
the ecm is not respending so thats why i think its the ecm broke. i know that if you dont have oil pressure that will also kill the ecm power i think. i have oil pressure. when i first got the car running two weeks ago the fans for the radiator work fine turning on and off. the reason i pulled the codes from the ecm was because the fan would turn on. i switched relays still no fan. also when i first started fooling with the car the headlights wouldnt turn on. the parking lights work and the motors to flip the lights work? thanks for the manual info, was going to ask for the best one to use.
Sorry ahead of time for stealing the thread. I'll give it right back.
In regards to the ecm, I am picking up a 1984 soon. i was told the crossfire motor had a rod knock and was pulled in favor of an Implala LT1. I am told the engine tranny from the Impala will come complete with ecm and engine harness. All I need to do is make power connections to the ecm to make the motor run.
Since it is from an Impala, can I purchase a Vette chip or reflash the computer to make the ecm think it's in a Vette? Or will I run into trouble with the LT1 being iron head and not aluminum?

I was referencing the 1990 through 1991 SD ECM that the OP has, these are mounted under the hood are fairly rare.

So, I have about the same problem. ECU P/N is 01227727 and I think that it's toasted, since I can't get any connection to that via tuner pro or anything. Is it possible to just buy a different ecu with same number and swap the eprom to "new" one, or do it have to be an exact match with all numbers and characters with that old ecu? There's eprom code 16159831 and some other code AXCR as well on the top of the ECU box.
It's C4 with 4 speed automatic transmission. And it's running ridiculous rich by now. Temperature sensor seems to give right ohms and MAP has been replaced with new one.

Old post! You just need a new ECM and swap your original memcal (chip).
