As strange as it sounds (though you'd think a 350 is a 350), LT cars have different results than L98 owners. Typically drone/resonance is far less prevalent on LT cars.
I am new to this site and a new corvette owner...my first. I wanted to upgrade my exhaust system and I have a convertible 1989. My question is will the dronning from the Borla be just to much noise over a Magnaflow system. Thank you all for your assistance
Hi Dave,
We do offer several products for your '89 Vette; thanks for your interest in our exhaust!
Our loudest and most aggressive kit is the S-Type part# 140082 (also called the Stinger). This system has been known to drone, and that drone is more pronounced with the automatic transmission.
Our two mellow sounding kits, called Touring, are just slightly louder than the factory exhaust at start-up & idle. When you get on the accelerator though, our Borla exhaust note comes in like a symphony. As you get off the fun pedal and hit highway cruising speeds, it settles down to factory noise levels in the cabin. We offer two different polished exhaust tip styles.
If you're not as concerned with performance, take a look at our most quiet exhaust p# 11134. It doesn't require a 2.5" y-pipe conversion and is just a touch louder than the factory exhaust but contains no drone. http://www.borla.com/products/produc...prod_sku=11134
If you have any other questions, please reach out to me. My direct line is 805-246-6000. Best of luck on your exhaust-hunting expedition!

Really? I guess mine must have been deviant, then. My '94 LT1 car had a horrible drone with the 3" B&B Triflow system on it. It was truly unbearable. It effectively turned the car into a five-speed, because I couldn't stand the resonance in sixth gear. Corsa solved the problem completely. No drone, sounds and looks awesome, fit is excellent. Well worth the $, IMHO. YMMV...

Are you talking a complete 3" system?
I've been in an LT1 with headers and factory mufflers (no cats) -- aggressive, no drone.
I've been in an LT1 with stock manifold, no cats, stock muffler-delete...but with Magnaflow muffler/x-pipe added in the belly. Even more aggressive, no drone.
Lots of guys with eliminators on LT1's are happy. All of these cars had stock 2.75" pipes.
Do those same conversions (above) on an L98 and you get lots more complaints....way more.

In that case, I'd have to blame the B&B's. What did you do to fix it? I might have tried that Magnaflow X-pipe/muffler piece (in place of the stock resonator.

Did you have that resonator?
The B&B was definitely responsible for the droning. The resonator was a component of the B&B triflow cat-back system.
I fixed it by going with a Corsa. The B&B that I removed will be sold.
my 90 had borla's with lingenfelter headers at one time and there was no drone. i bought the borlas to replace new flowmasters that were unbearable. i went back to stock when i thought i was trading it in on a c5,then wisdom prevailed, and i still have it.now installing 6.0L LQ4.
since i couldnt afford to pay for corsa now, i bought some lt1 mufflers from a cf member, $74 shipped, took off the annoying magnaflow mufflers and put them on the magnaflow cat back y pipe after some cutting and welding, and i couldnt be happier! i didnt feel a loss in power but they sound really nice and they look good too, for a daily car, thats what i need
It does have a nasty rip to it when you boot it but it's otherwise very, very quiet -almost stock-like. In fact it is so quiet that I have been considering modding it but I think I may keep the mufflers and replace the front y pipe and main cat with "off road" versions. I think that might uncork the motor a bit and also make it sound a bit throatier. The other option I am considering is a set of eliminators with bolt on flanges which I can exchange with the mufflers for those times when I want it loud.
This system was on my car when I bought it so I have no real strong bais one way or the other.
Walker quiet flow mufflers are the best for the money. They are true duel outlet and flow 1/3rd more than stock.I used a set on my 85.Nice sound and performance.
Funny I bought my car with Corsa on it and the previous owner went through 3 systems before he finally broke down and put the Corsa on. I would have known this already having been down that path once in the past on a previous 1996.
My current 95 has shorty headers as well with the Corsa and I will say it is noticably louder than my 96 with stock manifolds and Corsa. No drone on either though.
My exasust was stock, got the center cat clogged, took it the shop, they gave me a good deal on magna flow cat back, they put it on my car plus replacing the front cats, they elmenated the center cat saying that I don't need it for smog!!!! It was load and lots of drone even with 100% stock engine, a year later, I put cam heads on it, it got loader a bit, then I installed the hooker long tube headers, with no cats, it got loader, Took it to the shop to install center cat, it became Better a little bit, but noteced less performance, now With the lt1 mufflers, really smooth and I just hear low poping noice when it's idling ( I guess because of the headers) Im thinking of getting the hooker 3" y pipe to make it flow better, as I don't like the way the shop conected the headers with y pipe by only cutting one foot of each side of the y pipe and welding 3" pipes with 3" flanges to match the headers!
