Anyone heard of rewriting the firmware in the ECM to allow the computer to sense manifold pressure with a 2 bar MAP sensor, instead of a factory single bar?
I've "heard" that it would be very difficult if not impossible to make it function correctly. But I'm far from ever being a programmer.....The most common mod I've heard for 2+ maps is to use the gn's ecm.
I don't think it would be impossible, but it is not a plug and play soluition. It will take some assembly language programing to do it. You may want to check out the thirdgen org board for changing the code.
BTW I wouldn't use the GN's software, the GN is sequential FI (we use batch fire until 94), slow (like 85 ECM), and has distributor less ignition. The Syclone/Typhoon/Turbo Sunbirebird ECM would be a better choice if changing ECM's.
I had overheard someone was able to do this locally(www.ccsmotorsports.com), but I'm not sure. I was reviewing the differences in the sensors and came up with the following:
Both operate within the same voltage range (up to 5 volts), and there are 1, 2 or 3 bar sensors that can be purchased. The difference in the readings are proportional (this is what I saw on a DFI site) based on which sensor you use.
Now I don't do any programming, but don't the MAP cars reference map signal, RPM, and 02 readings to adjust fuel(or something along those lines)?
If so, can't you just manipulate the tables to work with a 2 or 3 bar map sensor?
(I have never programmed or even viewed the custom chip tuning process, so if someone would please shed some light on this subject if I'm wrong so that I don't embarass myself in the future)
