Guys,
My 86 vette coolant gauge reads about 20 degrees too high. Im assuming it is the sensor that is bad. Has anyone had this issue or know where the sensor is located?
Thanks,
Nick
The picture shows the coolant temperature sensor for the auxiliary fan in front of the radiator. The CTS for the dash is on the other side of the engine, in the same relative position, i.e., near the engine oil dipstick.
My engine looks like that, too. That's because I scrubbed all the aluminum pieces with 409 in my kitchen sink. I guess you can tell I'm not married... ;-)

Dude! I'm in awe at how clean that engine is! How/where can I get schooled on cleaning up my engine compartment?
Start with a good pressure washer thats not too powerful. BUT, put plastic sheeting on your distributor area, your A/C compressor AND your alternator. Also do not spray the intake manifold and injector areas directly. When you have finished getting most of the grease, oil & debris off, use a high pressure leaf blower to thoroughly blow all excess water off. Next, refinish you valve covers. See attached write-up from Joe C. Then use a very fine brass wire brush to clean all rust areas. This brush will also work wonders on your cast aluminum parts (chassis components, TPI runners, plenum, etc.) Finally, 3M adhesive remover will work on any difficult areas.
dude. forget how clean your engine is i like your brake fluid reservoir! is that stock? it isn't is it? what did it cost?
my 91's busted right where you have the little mini tube thing to hook the front reservoir to the back one. that is awesome.
That is a stock early C4 brake master cylinder. It is a service replacement and if you look closely, you will notice that the aluminum paint that the refurbisher used on it is starting to flake off. I lose points for this when the car is judged. The original master cylinders were raw aluminum and not painted.
You can get a new master cylinder for you Vette at any of the reputable Corvette parts houses.
