Had my 94 in the shop after a rebuild of motor and trans. The oil was leaking on the distributer before the build. So after the build, I sent it to the shop with the same opti on there and they said the car wont tune because of the code. Previously, the check engine light would only come on when I gave it gas. Probably a missfire right? So the shop calls and said they checked wiring, ICM, coil and they were all fine. They called a week later and said the opti was bad. They replaced it and it was finally able to be tuned. I got the car back yesterday and they said the car is not miss firing but the check engine light is going to stay on. I thought it would clear after a while of driving but he said it wont. Anyone have any of these issues with the lights? If not what else should I check?
I have new wires, plugs, and opti. Grounds were checked. Unless the headers melted a spot in the new wires since the rebuild, I will check.
Find a new shop to tune your car. They at least need to find out what code is setting the light and then either eliminate the light if the code is no longer valid or fix the issue. My assumption is they have no idea what they are doing.
K bringing my car to a shop again. I havent had this thing for 10 months. I will fix it myself. I mean if I have new plugs, wires and opti what is could be the issue? If I am getting a code does that mean its something that the ecm reads? Like opti, ICM, COil? I will check it out later today and see if I am getting any arching
'94 LT1 PCMs don't have the capability to check for misfire and will not set a code for that.
Your next steps....
1) Find a new shop
2) For the love of God, buy the factory service manual
3) Post the specific code(s)
Steps 2 & 3 will make life soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much easier.
If the thing was leaking oil on the opti before, there's a chance one of the pins in the connector that goes to the opti is dirty and making poor contact. Oil will also degrade wiring if it's on there long enough, so the harness might be bad. Of course there's a myriad of other potential causes that we can guess about in a data-free environment. Having facts & data simply takes all the fun out of throwing time & money at a problem.
well the light went off and has stayed off for my 100 miles drive today. I will never go to that shop again. They work on vettes and other nice cars ect. But for some reason treated me without respect and didn't do a timely great job on mine.
