Are you refering to the instake manifold gasket or the mound of oilly crap? If gasket, then yes, put a new one back on. If mound of crap you can leave it off.
The gasket isn't even pictured, and the mound of crap was removed in a hot tank. I was refering to the plate covering the coolant passage in the middle of the head.
Bill, all the coolant passages on the heads had plates like that.
Brian, it's odd that they allowed only that small hole for coolant to pass through.
..... That's not a coolant passage ... its an exhaust port for EGR and , before EFI it was to supply heat to the intake manifold under the carburetor to improve fuel atomization ......

They didn't do much to the 350 SB itself when they went from carb to EFI. As far as I know, it's EGR and is no longer useful.
