Well I fixed the trans issue, then went to start it.....3-4 seconds and dies, I hear the fuel pump, have spark...think its the TPS. Any other ideas? No codes
fuses are fine, checked those, will look at oil pressure...only reason I am thinking TPS is when I moved it the car ran...although poorly. The TPS sets up against the intercoolers very closely and I have removed those to check a few things.....odd that I did not have the issue before.
I will check oil pressure reading on dash
suddenly the LT-5 seems like such a simple motor to work on
Hi Lee, What kind of Vette do you have? The TPS will usually still allow the car to run, although poorly. It does sound like an oil pressure issue but it could be a bunch of other stuff. Car make and model please. Thanks and have a great day.
The ECM powers the fuel pump for 2 seconds when you turn on the ignition. After that the oil pressure switch supplies power to the fuel pump. It's next to the distributor on the driver's side. The oil pressure sender for the instrument panel is teed off of the same place.
If the oil pressure switch is not doing its job the engine will run off the fuel in the rails from the initial pressurization and then die when there is no more fuel. Also look at wiring and fuses.
Cliff, on the 91 the oil pressure switch is backup only, in parallel with FP relay. as I said in another thread, not sure about earlier c4.
the clue here is 3 secs. with fuel rails the engine will run for 15 secs or longer.
can unhook tps and also MAP sensor if it has one, car should run. sounds like the injectors are not firing, may be shorted injector or wire. the short will cause ECM to shut down injectors.
you can check it by pulling one FI fuse, crank, reinstall, then the other. or one fi plug at a time, or ohm them to see if one is low.
***I have NO idea how the callaway system works, but it is FI. my be similar.

Reason: new info from OP
Callaway is a TPI system with what is called a microfueler...when turbos tip in to injectors in front of the TB spray in extra fuel...there are run off of a separate control unit. Other than that its pretty much stock TPI...
There's nothing worse than an unreliable Corvette. The next time the Callaway screws up I'll drive up there and swap you my fine 95 Vert for it. Mine has always been reliable. I'll even take the responsibility for getting that blown POS to Kentucky. Just a suggestion.......or not.
i have a 96 cirvette LT1 it just died in traffic one day. let it sit got it started and after a few min it will die again. is it the ICM.
there are several pages of root cause anaysis in the FSM concerning start-not run issues.
one clue it to listen to it shut of, a suffocating, gasping sound -fuel starvation- or 'turn the key off' -which is immediate.
ICM is a likley cause, but so are at least 12 others.
wiggled the inj wires and tapped the IAC, started....woo hoo thanks...just need to figure out which one it was; IAC going to be replaced
next time it does it keep it above idle. if it is iac should die when you drop back rpm. never saw a thread where the iac was identified as the problem for a 3 sec engine run -assuming it shut off without chugging and gasping. with the c4 it is possible, I am sure.

Give my left nut & my sac for that 87 Callaway TT.
Have a thing for 1987 C4's & 1987 Callaway TT's.
Like a forgotten performance car.
No one cares to given a 2nd look.
Like it that way.
Big power & torque added under the hood makes everything better for me.
