Opinion on shocks

nut at the top is the hardest part.
use plenty of penetrating lube, especially on the bolts holding the 'hats' to the frame rail, on the later C4's, otherwise you snap the bolt off in the frame

love live the clamshell!
KYB is not expensive but I hate those stiff POS...
Monroe Sensatrac?
'steins are wayyyyy high but worth it if you autocross or just enjoy spirited driving..

Those shocks sell in amazon for $26. Are you serious about installing $26 shocks on a Corvette?
There are better shocks out there, to save your time and money do a wise search and at the end you may choose KYB.
Now to honestly answer your question, Monroes are trash.
Cost is not indicative of quailty, only of advertising. If they only last 30k, that's 10 years.
the fact that they are the exact same dampening rate all the way thru the travel makes them uncomfortable at low/street speeds. At higher speeds they are better...but in civil city driving they have poor dampening. Maybe I'm spoiled having had 'steins of all my cars...but they are far superior IMO. The KYB is an acceptable option when funds are limited for a car that will get pushed a little...
there are other options like Monroe or Delco that are inexpensive and will work, for awhile.
I've got KYB on my car now, while I wait to have the Bilsteins rebuilt to my spec for my current set of springs. The KYB are just too harsh for street life.

Anything is better than worn out shocks.
BTW the OP can also have his current shock rebuilt.

Have you ever priced rebuilding your cores?
In my experience, it costs as much to rebuild as to purchase new.
Unless you have an inside line.....

one argument against is, how any guys with 20yr old cars need a shock that lasts 20 years?
dude, buy the Monroes. you can thank me later. unless you "road race" whatever that means, you don't need the best money can buy.

Just make sure they are nitrogen gas charged shocks.
Won't fade easily or the oil will not foam internally with heat built up from bumpy roads or high speed driving.
Buy the expensive top of line shocks come Tax return time when you get your $$$ Check back from the IRS.
If the current president does not claim it his 1st.
No one mentioned the Edelbrock IRS series shocks.
Around $110 to $140 each for a C4 from my memory last time I checked Summit Racing online.
A friend of mine MOPAR Bob used a set on his 1969 Plymouth Road Runner 383 Magnum 4- speed with functional air grabber hood.
That old Detroit Iron Rode Beautiful & handled very nice with "E" IRS shocks on all 4 corners.
I could not believe it.
He let me drive it few times with him riding shotgun.
I drove it very hard just like my 87 Vert with Bilstiens on all 4's.
I was impressed.
We were hitting speeds over 135 MPH flat out too with the 3.90 Posi rear.
Car never felt like it was going to loose control on curves at 110 mph.
15X7" inch rims all on 4 corners.
Just cheap BF Goodrich T/A tires installed.
Car was not lowered.
That old Road Runner understeered some,
But nailing the gas in 3rd gear,
The *** end swung out & I was back in control- car straightened out once again.
He's my best friend MOPAR Bob,
so he trusts me 100% behind the wheel driving.
He likes taking me on rides in his BB Mopars passing cars at 100mph sideways.
Its an experience to behold with him driving sideways & burning rubber & laughing non stop.
I am not going too............LOL
Wizz & take you chit 1st is my advice to you.
LOL
Don't eat lunch too.
Nothing really scares me,
But my best bud Bob driving sideways.
LOL
Come to Illinois.
I will let him take you for a ride.
The 1970 Plymouth Road Runner is gone.
Sold last fall.
The 1970 Dodge Charger Magnum 500 with factory hide-a-way headlights & 383 Magnum Auto car almost done.
3.23 geared rear.
Him & I been working on it since Feb of this year.

Amazing things can be done with 500 to 700 Ft/lbs of torque on tap.
Go find a MOPAR nut with INDY aluminum heads & a camshaft of at least 255 degrees duration @.050" lift & 90 degrees of valve overlap.
They are around Appleton, Wisconsin too.
