Paging 89vette...
I responded to your question about my cam in my topic on the More 396. Something I just came across in the article in Vette magazine I was talking about was rather interesting...
When they installed the 1.6 rr's in the 383 they were using the hp dropped more than 40 horses... and the torque jumped by almost 30 ft lbs. It seems that the pushrods were contacting the top of the clearance hole in the cylinder heads. It was hard for them to spot because the friction point was hidden beneath the pushrod guideplates. The heads on the 383 mule they were using were Trick Flow, a Comp Cams 292H cam and a Edelbrock performer manifold with a 750cfm carb.
At 4600 rpms they were turning 478 ft lbs tq and 419 hp with the 1.52s. These numbers were at the crank. Bumping these numbers around and using an 18% drive train lose that comes out to about 303.58 rwhp and 421.96 rwtq on a 383.
Anyway, just food for thought and I saw that you were planning on installing new valvesprings, so what the heck.

That was the April '02 issue of Vette. I just got my copy within the last week or so. Good luck and I hope you find those horses.
