Default H42 code still

I just checked my wires around the ICM, coil, Opti and no cuts or severs. I replaced the connector for the ICM, and got the stuff from radio shack for the ICM. Obviously took the batt cables off and connected them after I did this work and I am still getting the H.42 code...Anyone ever fix this issue? My opti is brand new, wires and plugs as well. It starts and runs great just this dang code on my screen.

Derek,

An H42 code is a "historical" code. What this means is that at some time in the past a "C42" code, or a "current" code was seen. Now that it is a H42, it means that the condition is no longer occurring. I believe the H42 code will go away after a certain number of ignition on-off cycles. Someone with better knowledge will probably chime in, I hope.

Good luck.

Mark

How did this problem originally start, with 42 code or something else?

I was having ICM problems. Then after the rebuild the shop couldn't tune the car because of the opti. So they replaced it and now its all good to go. I havent had ICM problems since the rebuild and the opti thing is solved. So you think it will cycle off? Once in a while the service engine light will pop off then come back on. I have NO problems or signs of faulty anything while driving. Just the dang light.

the manual says it will only set code 41 during cranking. when light goes off, does it come back on while cranking?

When I start the car, it starts great, runs great after that as well. The light comes on about 3 seconds after I start the car and remains on untill I shut it off. I am reading it could be...knock sensor, esc, ecm ICM...

if it is a 94 year, with a ecm module 4 - code 41 it is a open ignition control circuit. manual has a small flowchart on page 6e3-a-89. on page 88 it says it will disable injectors etc and will not start and will not turn on MIL.
Are you sure it is module 4 code 41?

lol its ok. NO big deal. This code doesn't seem to be hurting my car at all or stopping me from getting home so if I don't figure it out, its no big deal.

42 and 41 are similiar, one is grounded circuit and other is open circuit.
these are PCM or module 4.

but there is another code 42 about selective ride control, do you have selective ride control?

then you have a intermentent code 42, cause it would not start otherwise. manual does not say much about intermentent 42.
the H just means it went to history after you turned your ignition off.
sounds like you have checked connections. open or grounded connections can be very frustrating to find, especially if they are intermentent.
i use a magnifying glass to check wires and connections. also use electical lube on all connections after i clean them.
if you erase the code or it disappears, try to move around the wires after startup when someone is watching for engine light to illuminate.
i will search another area....

Thanks bud. I think it might be ICM wiring or around there. I had problems before the rebuild with my car burning them out. I hate to tear into the wiring but its cooling off so I will give it a shot. I just replaced the ICM connecter pigtail and nothing changed so I shall go deeper.
