Anyone have any experience with the Trick Flow top end kits? I like the matched package deal, and have heard good things about their heads and kits. My only concern is that the 420hp kit may have too rough of an idle, and it's hard to buy the 350hp kit for $100 less... I prefer if my Vette sounds like a Vette and not an old muscle car with a rough idle.
Is there any chance that I'll even get the rated HP from these kits if I keep my CFI setup have it ported with a larger tb?
Maybe there's a better way to make 400hp? But to me $1800 is affordable to get 420hp.
talk to Lloyd Elliot from Elliot's Port Works, I went with his LE2 heads and biggest emissions cam he offers and couldn't be happier. I haven't had it on a dyno yet but he said it should make ~400rwhp with all the supporting mods. Lloyd is a great guy and very helpful
EDIT: just noticed your car is an '84, Ive heard Lloyd will do port work on the older motors but I don't think he has any packages available like he does for the LTx motors

You'd better be hiding under that chair. A carb swap. Sheesh, why would anyone want to go from electronic fuel injection to a semi-regulated gas leak. I believe that's all a carb is and I grew up with them. At least you could have suggested a single plane (or dual plane) and a 4150 style throttle body. A carb swap.....indeed.
I like the uniqueness of the CFI... I know it's not the most desired setup out there, but I do believe that with proper porting and tuning it can make some power and still look stock when the hood is open.
Maybe a TPI in the future, but I'm going to stick with the CFI for now.
Thanks, RIP. Lloyd's options look good and the prices are good. I'll reach out to see it he can help me out. I'm assuming this is all based on the newer LT motors.
Do a little thread searching on the Xfire. There are a couple of very knowledgeable guys on the board here (Rod is one of them). 350-400hp with the Xfire... good luck. prob 1, intake sucks, search "porting xfire". prob 2 cam is amazingly tiny Im surprised the thing runs at all. prob 3 the computer cant be tuned to run a cam with any meaningful specs. prob 4 the heads are junk, they are way too heavy and have embarrassingly poor flow specs. The throttle bodys flow surprisingly well.
The cheapest simplest way to the hp numbers you mentioned is a HP 650 and a top end kit w/ cam and headers. You could pic any of a half dozen FI kits that will work great it will cost about 1000$ more.
So I understand there are limitations with the CFI setup, I'm not too concerned with right now. I'd like to change out the cam and heads and was looking at the Trick Flow top end kit packages 350 & 420 HP kits. I guess what I'm hearing is I'm better off to buy the 350HP kit, as the 420HP won't likely unless I replace the CFI system.
Does anyone have experience with the Trick Flow kits, do they make the claimed power, and are the worth the money?

The kits WILL make the power we claim as long as the parts we suggest are used with them. For example the 420 HP kit is based off of a 350 with flat tops with the 64cc head giving you about 10.0:1 compression. Used with a Edelbrock Vic. Jr. intake and a 750 Holley. With that combination you will make the 420 HP at the crank we claim.
